Major in Health Sciences

The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences provides students with a broad, interdisciplinary foundation in the biological, behavioral, and social sciences preparing them for a wide range of healthcare careers and graduate-level professional programs. Through coursework grounded in evidence-based practice, health systems, and interprofessional collaboration, students gain a deep understanding of the factors that shape individual and population health. Students will also gain discipline-specific knowledge and skills as they delve deeper into psychology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, public health, and other areas of study related to health sciences.

Graduates are prepared to think critically, communicate effectively, and adapt to the evolving demands of the healthcare environment. Whether continuing on to clinical graduate programs or entering the health workforce directly, students leave Texas State equipped to lead, serve, and make a meaningful impact in the communities they call home.

 

Major in Health Sciences (Emergency Medical Services Concentration)

The fully online Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a concentration in Emergency Medical Services is built for working paramedics who want to expand their opportunities, move into leadership, and stand out in today’s evolving healthcare environment. Whether you currently work in emergency services or plan to enter the field, this accelerated online program will prepare you as a valuable, highly trained EMS professional who is ready to meet job market demands. Major in Health Sciences (Fine Motor Therapy Concentration)

The fine motor concentration prepares students to apply to an occupational therapy program to earn a degree in occupational therapy.

 

Major in Health Sciences (Gross Motor Therapy Concentration)

The gross motor concentration prepares students to apply to a physical therapy program to earn a doctor of physical therapy (DPT) degree.

 

Major in Health Sciences (Pre-Chiropractic Concentration)

The pre-chiropractic concentration prepares students to apply to a chiropractic program to earn a doctor of chiropractic (DC) degree.

 

Major in Health Sciences (Pre-Communication Disorders Concentration)

The pre-communication disorders concentration prepares students to apply to the undergraduate Communication Disorders (CDIS) program. Students will complete their general education core curriculum and prerequisites for the CDIS program during their first two years prior to applying to the program. The deadline for submission of applications is typically in May. Admission to the CDIS program is competitive and selective. It is recommended that students arrange academic advising at least once prior to submitting an application. Students admitted to the CDIS program will begin the academic sequence in the fall semester of the junior year. Major in Health Sciences (Pre-Medical Laboratory Science Concentration)

The pre-medical laboratory science concentration prepares students to apply to the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program. Students will complete their general education core curriculum and prerequisites for the MLS program during their first two years prior to applying to the program. The deadline for submission of applications is typically in February. Admission to the MLS program is competitive and selective. It is recommended that students arrange academic advising at least once prior to submitting an application. Students admitted to the MLS program will begin the academic sequence in the fall semester of the junior year. The pre-nursing concentration prepares students to apply to the undergraduate Nursing program. Students will complete their general education core curriculum and prerequisites for the Nursing program during their first two years prior to applying to the program. Admission to the Nursing program is competitive and selective. It is recommended that students arrange academic advising at least once prior to submitting an application.
