Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care (B.S.R.C)
Curriculum
This degree prepares students for careers as respiratory therapists in a variety of healthcare settings. During the sequential curriculum, students build a foundation of cardiopulmonary knowledge. They provide direct patient care during clinical rotations and specialization internships. The first two years of the degree are completed in San Marcos, and the specialized final two years take place on the Round Rock Campus.

Requirements:
1. Applicant is currently an active Texas State student or has already applied to Texas State for general admission and has been admitted by the priority phase deadline, and will be an active student during the Fall 2023 semester. To apply for Fall 2023 admission to Texas State, please visit: GoApplyTexas.org.
2. After Fall 2022, the applicant will have no more than 15 hours of pending and in progress Pre-requisite courses (including RC 2213) to be completed by the end of Spring 2023. No summer classes will be considered for this phase. (This requirement is waived for the general admission application.)
3. Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
4. Completed BSRC Application
5. Completed ADA form
6. A written statement explaining why you want to pursue respiratory care a a career?
7. One MP4 formatted video explaining: Why you chose the B.S.R.C. program at TX State University to achieve this career goal.
8. Transcripts for any classes taken outside of TX State University or have not been transferred into TX State University and available on your Degree Audit.

Applications received during the Priority Application Phase and DOES NOT meet the requirements listed above, WILL BE automatically defaulted to the General Application for Admission.

IMPORTANT: Background checks, drug screening, and proof of immunization are required following initial acceptance into the program. Applicants must successfully clear each of these three requirements to be fully accepted into the program.
Texas State University is not required to admit to the program an applicant with a flagged background check who has been given tentative clearance for a license by the Texas Medical Board (TMB.) Applicants should be aware that such clearance by TMB does not guarantee an applicant’s employability.
Finally, applicants should be aware that the University does not control the individual requirements of hospital systems for clinical rotations and employment and that such requirements might directly impact an applicant’s ability to complete their clinical education, obtain future employment, or obtain appropriate licensure.

R.R.T. to B.S.R.C. Online Completion Program
Curriculum
This 100%-online program is designed for Registered Respiratory Therapists who want to advance their knowledge and skills in critical care, research, education, leadership and management. Students with an associate-level degree in respiratory care can earn a bachelor’s degree in as little as one year.

Program Admission Requirements:
The RRT-to-BSRC Online Degree Completion Program offers two separate admission tracks to accommodate prospective students.
Track One: Become a Bobcat Today! Track One allows prospective students to begin the Respiratory Care coursework immediately. Students participating in this track will be allowed to simultaneously complete Respiratory Care courses and the Texas State General Core Curriculum. Track One allows students to complete any remaining Texas State General Core Curriculum online via online or distance learning courses at Texas State University (with the exception of the required Chemistry and Microbiology courses). Prospective students who wish to participate in this admission option must:
- Complete the ApplyTexas application
- Be a graduate of a CoARC accredited entry-level Respiratory Care program from a regionally accredited institution
- Submit a BSRC Respiratory Care program application
- Provide a video explaining why you chose Respiratory Care as a profession.
- Provide a written statement of intent for completing BSRC degree at Texas State
- Obtain the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) national credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care prior to enrollment in the third semester of the online program
- Complete the Texas State General Core Curriculum online at Texas State University via online or distance learning courses (Note: A maximum of 18 hours of General Core Curriculum may be completed via distance learning courses)
- Complete a minimum of 24 hours of the final 30 hours of required coursework at Texas State University (via online or distance learning courses)
Note: Students who choose the Track One admission option must successfully complete the following Texas State University degree and graduation requirements.
Track Two: Track Two allows prospective students the option to begin the Respiratory Care coursework post-completion of the Texas State General Core Curriculum. Students participating in this admission track may complete the Texas State General Core Curriculum and the BSRC Respiratory Care pre-requisite courses at any regionally accredited institution. Prospective students who wish to participate in this admission option must:
- Complete the online ApplyTexas application

Curriculum
Mid- to high-level respiratory therapists, managers and educators can gain advanced-practice skills with this degree. Students get extensive training in patient education and disease management, along with a concentration in either leadership or polysomnography (sleep diagnostics). The degree is offered in hybrid format, with some courses taken online and some taken in person at laboratories on the Round Rock Campus.
